Evaluation and Transplant Process
Whether you’re coming to us through a provider or seeking transplant
care directly, we begin with a comprehensive evaluation. This helps our
team understand your child’s condition and determine the best path forward.
During an initial evaluation, families can expect:
- A review of your child’s medical history and test results
- Lab work and imaging (ultrasound, chest X-ray)
- Heart testing (ECHO, EKG)
- Liver biopsy
- Meetings with specialists including your transplant doctor, surgeon, nurse
navigator, dietitian, psychologist, and child life team
- Insurance coordination and social work consultation
While waiting for a transplant, families can expect:
- Placement on the national transplant waiting list if your child is a good candidate
- Priority based on medical urgency, with the most critical cases placed higher
- Variable wait times, ranging from days to weeks or longer
- Ongoing communication with your care team, including updates on your child’s
condition, insurance, or contact info
- Support from social workers to help manage emotional and financial needs
