Child Life Practicum Overview & Requirements
The student must be registered in Child Life courses approved by ACLP and
eligible for a Child Life internship. It is important that you have your
Child Development classes, play course, theory(you need to be familiar
with theory) before your practicum. You should be registered for Child
Life practice course or take the course prior to practicum. It is recommended
that you are registered for the Death/Dying course as well.
The application submission dates are as follows:

Practicum Schedule: June/July 2028 (3 weeks; 40 hours/week).
- Student must have completed a minimum of 50 work or volunteer hours with
children - this should include hours with well children and sick children
(camps, hospital, special events, walks, etc.). These can include volunteer
hours and/or work experience.
- Student are required to commit to a 10 weeks rotation and a minimum of
12 hours per week (schedules may vary due to school commitments). The
Summer practicum is a 3 week rotation with 40-hour weeks.
- Student must be flexible. Some rotations will include early morning, late
evenings, and/or weekends.
- Student must complete an application and submit all requested documentation
by the due date to be considered for a practicum.
- Student should have an academic supervisor for the duration of the practicum,
submit a proof of registration, and academic transcript (unofficial will
be accepted). If you have graduated with a Child Life degree, please speak
to practicum supervisor about options.
- The Practicum consists of CCLS in acute care areas, ICUs, surgery, radiology,
ED and Hem Onc.
- The practicum will require a variety of submitted work i.e. journals, article
reviews, developmental assessments, activities, introduction of services, etc.
- Student will need to submit a resumé and 2 letters of recommendation:
1 Academic and 1 Professional (related to practicum). All recommendation
letters can be emailed to Bridget Perry at bridget.perry@lcmchealth.org.

- Student must meet volunteer requirements i.e. training, health records,
immunizations, background check, etc.
