The Pulmonology Department provides inpatient and outpatient pediatric pulmonary consultation, evaluation, diagnosis and therapy. Common disorders include asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, stridor, pneumonia, and many other acute and chronic respiratory disorders. The department also offers modalities including intensive care; acute, chronic and home ventilation; pneumograms; sleep studies; and fiber-optic bronchoscopy. The Pulmonology Department utilizes the most modern computerized pulmonary function, metabolic, and stress test equipment.
The sweat chloride test is a painless, noninvasive procedure used to help diagnose cystic fibrosis (CF), a genetic condition that affects the lungs and digestive system. This test measures the amount of chloride (a component of salt) present in the sweat. Elevated chloride levels can indicate CF, which allows physicians to begin timely treatment and management if needed.
