A National Model for Neonatal Care Right Here in Louisiana
As the only Level IV NICU in the state with every medical and surgical specialty under one roof, we offer the highest level of neonatal care. But our existing unit is stretched beyond its limits. We must build a NICU that facilitates the quality and complexity of the care we deliver – for every child, every time. Our new 60-bed NICU will foster undeniable outcomes and one, high standard of care across the region – as a lifeline for Louisiana’s most fragile and critically ill babies.
- Increased capacity: expanding from 35 to 60 beds, tripling the square footage and allowing for more separation between beds. Reduced noise and stimulation creates a more effective healing environment, improving outcomes for these tiny, fragile lives.
- Modern, efficient design: improved space for clinical workflows, equipment, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Private care environments: a standard of care that allows families to comfortably “room-in,” staying with their littles ones in the NICU. Private space also supports infection prevention by limiting the number of unrelated individuals spending time in small spaces.
- Advanced technology: equips our team with the best tools to save lives & improve outcomes
- Dedicated procedure space: supports full complement of pediatric surgical subspecialties caring for babies who require the highest level of care, when seconds matter.
- Family-centered care: intentional design will promote bonding and healing for newborn patients, parents and families
- A healing environment: offering dignity, privacy, and comfort for families in crisis. When a child is facing a serious or life-threatening condition, space where families can be together for discussion, support or comfort can provide a sense of safety and security as they navigate challenging situations.
- Dedicated step-down transition rooms: co-located space within the unit for babies and families advancing closer to independent care
- Leading edge staff space: expanded space for learning as we train the next generation of neonatologists, specialists and nurses.
- Infant feeding and lactation support: provides the most protective form of nutrition for our smallest infants supported by a team of lactation specialists.
