The Manning Family Children's Hand and Upper Extremity Program brings together our Orthopedics and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery teams to evaluate, treat, and provide long-term care for infants, children, adolescents and adults with congenital hand and arm differences, hand and upper extremity injuries and trauma, and tumors of the hand and arm. The teams work together to create treatment plans for each patient to help improve the functionality and appearance of each patient’s condition.
Whether your child needs a single visit for reassurance, ongoing treatment through one of our multidisciplinary clinics, or complex reconstructive surgery, we're committed to being your comprehensive home for hand and upper extremity care, serving Louisiana, Mississippi and the Gulf South region.
The Hand Program treats a wide range of congenital differences, injuries and tumors of the hand and arm, including:
The Hand Program works alongside these related Manning Family Children's programs:
For several years, Manning Family Children's has hosted
Hands on the Bayou, an annual hand camp for children with hand and upper extremity differences
and their families. Held each spring on a Saturday at our Main Campus,
the event brings these families together in a warm, welcoming space where
kids can play games, meet others who share similar differences, and build
friendships, confidence and a sense of community that lasts well beyond
the day itself. Parents and caregivers have the same opportunity, connecting
with other families, sharing what they've learned, and finding support
from people who truly understand the journey.
Referrals to the Hand Program are reviewed by our team and scheduled with the appropriate specialist, either in the Orthopedic or Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery departments, based on your child's condition.

Early intervention is crucial in the management of brachial plexus palsy.
We recommend that Epic users place a referral to the Brachial Plexus Clinic
immediately upon diagnosis. Additionally, we recommend immediately placing
a referral to both outpatient occupational therapy and physical therapy
to begin conservative management and parent education.
